She's like a DD bra - providing support when I absolutely need it the most.

I know, I know - I promised everyone a blog to keep them updated and yet, two weeks into my American adventure, it still lies unused and unloved. That is until now...

But i'm not going to begin with a cheery post on what should be the wonderfulness of my first few weeks as a professional cyclist because it would just be a lie: In all honesty, I'm utterly miserable. Sleep deprivation, training and the general malaise that I have come to call home sickness have all conspired against me.

However, all that changed about ten minutes ago, as with a little help from a very supportive friend, I realised that my proverbial mountain, whilst once unconquerable, is now in fact a mole hill that, with my new found motivation, can be easily side stepped.

Donc - I can begin blogging in earnest.

  1. Kate, n'oublies pas that whether a landform is called a mountain generally depends on usage among the local people. Whilst in the Pyrenees, nothing over 1000m is accepted as 'mountainous', in San Fransisco, for example, the highest point is Mount Davidson, which comes in at a wopping...300 metres!! Looks like the Americans don't like everything supersized after all!!

So remember all things are relative, even when it comes to proverbial mountains and what many outsiders may consider a mole hill, can be no less a mountain to us when we are in the process of climbing it...

  2. Oh, and one other thing:

These feelings that you have at the moment (which I like to call 'wobbly bits') come to us all. Remember that what you are doing is massive!! But it is also a good thing and will help you gain confidence and inner strength.

If you really wanted to, you could just bail out and come home. But diabetes has probably taught you that in life, sometimes you cannot just bail out and take it easy. If you can get through this, then you will be able to do anything...

    Make it good xx
